China Property Law
China's new private property law is a huge advance for China. Private property is one of the fundamental liberties established by Western philosophy. Hopefully, this leads China towards securing more liberties for its citizens. The law will also benefit the middle class which is essential to a strong democracy. Maybe I'm being optimistic, but this has to be a step forward.

I would agree that this new property law is a huge step in the development of China's democracy and individual freedoms. I would be interested to know more about the criteria for owning land in China and what kind of restrictions and/or responsibilities exist for new landowners. And while property ownership is likely to benefit the Chinese people, I do also fear that it can adversely affect the poor majority in China. With the growing disparity between the rich and poor, I question whether or not property ownership will continue to expand that gap. I wonder if it would be possible for land to be owned by a co-op of people for agricultural needs. It would be interesting also to know whether or not land that is purchased from the government is restricted for residential use, commercial use, agricultural use, development, etc.
