China: ‘No Hope’ for 181 Miners
This is a rather brief article about a mine flood that occurred wherein a 181 miners perished. The government is trying to deny liability by saying that the flood was a natural disaster and that the miners should have noticed the risks. I once watched a program where I think it was stated that China has the highest mortality rate amongst miners due to very lax safety standards and such, there are also I don't think any real unions which people can use to better their situation. China seems like a fascinating country in many aspects but also rather terrible in others, but I guess that doesn't make it to different from any other country really.

While the CCP currently does not allow unions in the western socialist sense there are NGO's, Non-government organizations, that are attempting to fond ways to put pressure on the Standing committee. One of them is a mother of a Tiananmen square victim of 1989. Ding Zilin created the Tiananmen Mothers NGO to pressure the government to open up and disclose the full events and especially deaths that occurred in 1989. While she and other mothers and supporters have not been arrested it is obvious that they are ignored as well. As such, does it make sense for the citizens of the PRC to accept their current government when it refuses to listen to them? At the same time, I am forced to ask myself is this question just an Ameriocentric idea since our values of freedom and obligatory dissension are drastically different than mainland Chinese?
