Also about the olyimpics

I read in the New York times the other day that U.S. athletes were told that they should wear masks in Beijing to filter some of the air pollution that may inhibit their athletic abilities. Will this offend the Chinese?

I don't think so. Many people who live in highly congested urban cities in the eastern part of the world wear what looks like surgical masks around town. On a more humorous note, I wonder what the cover of "Sports Illustrated" would look like when the athlete has on a mask?

I actually think it might offend the Chinese. (This is only based off the limited picture Dr. Hua has painted.) I think if the cultures were slightly more similiar maybe not. But after reading the address to the commission on U.S.-China relations, the biggest problem is the culture differences. I think a majority of the Chinese viewing athletes with masks on would be offensive.
