China to help WTO on Piracy
The WTO ruled Monday that Beijing was negligent in allowing the piracy of dvd's. The US backed this decision and stated that it was losing millions of dollars per year due to illegal piracy in China. The US also claimed that China was allowing sales of counterfeit drugs and designer clothing. The WTO did not support the these particular claims. Based on this WTO position, China has expressed regret for it's lax trading policies.

If you've ever been to a local market or duty-free store in Beijing, you'd know they do in fact have rampant counterfeiting of many name brand items. Admittedly, some of these items appeared to be legitimate defect items similar to what one would find on a close-out rack or in an outlet store (though the defects were often much more noticable). It's hard not to claim piracy when you see "North Face" jackets that would pass for the normal garment but instead they are branded as "West Face" or "South Face".
